Dixon Celebrates Reading Month
On March 31st Dixon Educational Learning Academy celebrated reading month by putting on their first annual “Reader’s Theatre Performance.” Reader’s Theatre is a theatre style in which the performers have no line memorization. With this style the students “perform” by reading scripts created from grade-level books or stories. This is traditionally done without the use of costumes, props or sets. Only vocal expression is used for the audience to understand the story. Readers Theatre combines reading practice with performance. Students use Reader’s Theatre to enhance their skill and confidence with reading aloud. The students did a wonderful job. The student audience even participated by adorning Dr. Suess hats.
