Sixth Graders Explore Nature
Dixon Educational Learning Academy 6th Grade students had fun exploring nature on a beautiful, crisp fall day. Part of their sixth grade Science unit on Ecosystems, this field trip/nature walk to Rouge Park was sponsored by “The Greening of Detroit.” Students walked to Rouge Park and took part in a scavenger hunt exploring schoolyard, forest, and prairie ecosystems. Students had fun portraying real life-like scientists. They used binoculars, insect nets, and data clip boards to record their findings while looking at different species of trees and other plants. They recorded the number of species of different flora and fauna in our school backyard and Rouge Park.
