Science – Edible Plant Cells

Students in Ms. Dill-Reese’s 5th and 6th grade special education class recently completed the first part of their Science unit about plants by making edible plant cell models from jello, frosting, and candy. Students used pull apart Twizzlers for the Cell Wall and Cell Membrane, sour patch licorice for the Chloroplasts, purple squeezable cake frosting for the Nucleus, Sweet Tart chews for the Vacuole, mini jaw breakers for the Mitochondrion, and green jello for the Cytoplasm. Students had a blast with this hands-on Science project and couldn’t wait to eat their model cell.
